Detailed review
Having just returned from the Belle Mar Plage I agree with most of the previous authors assessment with one or two glaring differences. Make no bones about it this is a superbly designed hotel in a fantastic location. From entry in to the lobby your fears about whether you made the right decision evaporate as a stunning view of the indian ocean emerges beyond a beautiful infinity pool. Palm trees are set into their own wells within the infinity pool amid conical shapes that add a contemporary feel to the design. You can also swim in this pool which is clear as crystal with lovely blue/green tiles and sloping contours. In the main restaurant the food selection is impressive with cooking zones representing different continental tastes and the quality is excellent. We didn't look at a Standard room as we had booked one of the lovely junior deluxe suites with a sea view. This where our trouble started. We had booked around 8 months in advance of our trip which was the culmination of a 6* cruise from Cape Town and for our short 4 night stay we wanted to treat ourselves so we paid extra for a sea view which my wife particularly wanted. On arrival with a group of friends of different age groups we were told we had been upgraded to a villa and would be sharing with another couple (who turned out to be the parents of two friends). Whilst the villa was superb and spacious with it's own butler and internal swimming pools it was at the back of the resort and from our perspective could have been anywhere in the world. Whilst our proposed co-habitants were lovely and quite obviously loved the villa we were put in a hugely embarrasing situation where firstly we wanted to move to the sea view we had eagerly anticipated only to find that as a result of this we had to manage our friends' parents expectations as they had to be moved also. My wife was inconsolable at the upset this caused the start of our holiday. Basically, there is such a demand for a sea or beachside view the hotel use the villa's to try and keep these for people staying for longer periods as the villa's are relatively unused as they are very expensive. We also found that the waiters in the bar areas were not particularly attentive and milled around the front of the bar in groups chatting instead of patrolling the tables to offer refills. On many occasions you had to go and get a waiter to take your drinks order or go to the bar yourself making you question what they were there for. Once you ordered your drinks or food they also took some time to arrive whereas the room receipt for your drinks arrived in double quick time for your signature ! In the restaurant the service was better but not by a lot. The golf courses are superb but quite challenging. The legends course is overcrowded and as a result slow so on one very hot day one of our group came back having taken 5 hours to get round and looked like a beetroot. The other course is around 10 minutes away by courtesy bus which I played and is much less congested. The beachfront is superb with free watersports and you can walk the beach all the way to its cresent shaped end and helo pad at the neighbouring 7* hotel called the Le Saint Geran (top hotel on the island). We went in to this hotel one evening as some of our friends were staying there and I wouldn't trade it for the Belle Mar Plage (not a chance). It was tres expensive for room and breakfast only and when our friends came to see us at the Belle Mar they felt they had been conned. It is not a patch on the beauty of the Belle Mar Plage. Have a good time.
Food, setting and hotel design and ambience are superb.
Beware of upgrades and service was slow.

This hotel is one of the most beautiful in Mauritius. The first thing which impresses is the view from the lobby: absolutely stunning. We were upgraded to a junior suite which was spacious, comfortable and elegantly furnished with a nice bathroom equipped with a bath tub and a large shower. There are several pools and they all seem to be of a different color (see pictures). All pool areas are stunning! La Citronelle (the main restaurant) offers a wide variety of different dishes every evening with live cooking stations. Plenty of choice as well at breakfast. The hotel is really big which in a way is positive but the ways to walk back and forward are quite long (thankfully there is a transport service where golf carts take you from one side to the other). Going from the kids club to our room for example was quite far. There are two golf courses which according to my husband are fantastic. A bit tricky but beautiful! The green fees are included in the package which is a big bonus! Also the beach is nice although we did have a lot of wind because of which staying on the beach could get a bit cold (there are plenty of deck chairs so no need to 'book' your place on the beach).I agree with one other review I read on Vinivi where someone complains about the cost for the babysitter. We also had to pay for the taxi of the babysitter (Euro 20... don't know where the babysitter was from??) We also had an issue about the evening meal for our son which took quite some time to be solved which is the reason for the 'average' for service. Otherwise, in all honesty service was good. All in all a wonderful hotel which we can highly recommend to anyone!

We have stayed at the Belle Mare Plage more than once. We even stayed once in a villa. This resort is anything you can ask for. The checkin in the lobby with a cocktail, the trendy rooms, the pool areas (I don't even know how many pools but I believe four), the Shisheido Spa, TWO 18 hole golf courses and green fees are included in your package. The main restaurant is a buffet restaurant with lots of live cooking stations. Top class quality and lots of choice. A big variety at breakfast in the main restaurant as well but you can also have breakfast at the club house of one of the golf courses which is really nice and quiet.I can recommend this resort to anyone. It is fantastic!

I spent only one night but had the chance to see the junior suite and the standard room. They are both nice but the Junior suit is excellent. there are lots of pools and even if it is a big hotel it is quite intimate. nice beach as well. The buffet meals were really good. we tryied the Indigo restaurant as well and it was excellent as well. well worth it. it is not good for children. you have to book the baby sitter in advance and they are expensive. the reception as well was e bit confusing and disorganized. If you are a couple it is a very nice hotel to visit. I also ahd time to try a yoga class there which was very relaxing.
natural and manmade beauty of the place
not very good if you have children

The calming aroma of vanilla greets you as in this very zen like hotel, with pools of water, sea vistas and basal rock architecture. The service is impeccable, the golf courses sublime, quisine is varied and of a high standard but the prices for drinks are outragous.
Proximity to great golf courses, atmosphere, villas, service
prices of drinks exceeds the normal 250% most hotels in the world add on. Beers cost 0.5 E but sell at 4E

had pleasure of staying in one of the villa at belle mare plage resort on the east coast of maurituis. villa sleeps 4 (2 double rooms) with kitchen, lounge area and own heated plunge pool. There is a "villa master" allocated to each villa to look after your needs. Bella mare plage has available to the golf enthusiast two well maintained 18 hole golf courses. The cusine at both a la carte restruants and evening buffet was delicious and the staff always left you with the impression that catering to your needs was a privilege rather than a job.
golf, rooms, well located with close proximity to beach
windy side to island, which can disrupt watersport such as skiing

We stayed in one of the private villas of the resort. What a treat! A personal butler meets you upon arrival at the villa where the check-in is done so that you don't have to wait at the reception and he is at your disposal until your departure. He offered to run an outside bath for when we'd return from dinner... The villa is amazing. 2 bedrooms with 2 bathrooms and an outside bathtub which was filled with water and petals when we arrived! The living room with big comfortable couches is huge and looks onto the terrace with your private pool. It is all so intimite and stylish. We loved every second! The food is fantastic, the buffets are lovely, lots of choice. Although the hotel is quite far away from everything (airport one hour, Grand Baie one hour, Port Louis one hour), you don't realize because everything you need and want is available at the hotel. For golf players there are two golf courses. All water sports are included, they have a gym and besides a tennis court they even a squash court. Oh and the spa is definitely worth trying!!!Obviously all this has got a price but it is worth it. We loved it!

Upon arrival, for the registration, you are seated in the lobby where you enjoy an awesome view of the Indian Ocean! That's when your holiday really starts!Beautiful pool areas, an extensive white sandy beach with the azure waters you dreamed about before leaving home! We are both golf players so for us this hotel is the perfect resort with two championship golf courses. The green fees are included in the price. The one course, Legend (which has been renovated recently I've heard), is quite difficult. The other one, Links, is easier and in our view more beautiful.Unfortunately we never went to the Shisheido Spa but it looked beautiful. We only had dinner at the main restaurant but we didn't feel the need to go to the other restaurants. There was so much choice and the buffet food (or from the live cooking stations) was really good. A few times we had breakfast at the restaurant on the golf course; the peace and quiet there in the morning is fabulous.A great holiday and for golfers probably the best choice of hotel in Mauritius.
