The visit
Called « Le Prince » by its frequenters, this luxury hotel opened 8 years ago. In these eight years the hotel has gained an experience in service: original, discrete and reassuringly calm. The resort is luxurious while at the same time respecting its natural surroundings.
Location
On the east coast of the island on a peninsula, Prince Maurice has adapted to its surrounding natural environment: palm trees and mangroves are omnipresent. The lagoon is protected by the distant coral reef where you can see and hear the waves breaking. Also of real interest is the ‘barachois’ (French name for coastal lagoon where salt water enters during high tide only).
Atmoshpere
The overall impression which distinguishes this resort can be summed up in three words: luxury, peacefulness and tranquility. The feeling of privacy is increased because while the resort is vast, the number of rooms is limited, therefore, you rarely encounter the other guests. In the evening the illuminations create a magical atmosphere throughout the hotel and the surrounding water.
Rooms
There are two different types of rooms: suites with either a garden or sea view or suites elevated on stilts looking out over the lagoon. In every suite you will find a mixture of warm colours, exotic wood, marble and a terrace which protects your privacy.
Beach
The lagoon is very extensive here and kite-surfers can often be observed on the opposite shore. Swimming is safe, especially for children because there is a gradual slope into the sea and the seabed is free from pieces of coral.
Activities
In addition to traditional activities (golf, water ski, excursions…), there is also a choice of different activities that you can participate in. These include fly fishing, kite-surfing and a Mauritian cookery course. The resort also boasts a BodyDoctor license, promoting the ‘healthy’ holiday concept e.g. combining a personalized exercise program and a specific diet. The spa also has an extensive choice of massage. Another point to note is that all water sports are included in the tariff as well as is access to two 18 hole championship golf courses which are within a 20 minute drive of the resort.
Service
The distinguishing feature of this resort: a luxury of details. To name just a few: the choice between 5 different pillows, the wet swimsuit bag, massage oil at the head of your bed, the reading glasses box to borrow glasses if you forgot yours, the sorbet by your deck chair… All this happens with modesty; the staff will never be intrusive.
Food
There are three restaurants, one of which « Le Barachois », is situated on a number of floating platforms on the lagoon, surrounded by mangroves and tropical fish where you enjoy delicious seafood dishes. There is an extensive wine list and the French chef stands for fresh and healthy food, mainly seafood.
Cleanliness
No surprises, it is impeccable.
Value for money
Le Prince Maurice is an exclusive product, with matching rates. Thanks to the service, tranquility and discretion, the resort counts many (well-esteemed) frequenters.
To point out...
The clientele is younger and the atmosphere less formal than you would have expected considering that Le Prince Maurice is one of the most luxurious resorts on the island. Obviously a certain type of clothing is necessary but you can leave your jacket and tie at home.
For families
What we didn’t expect was to encounter many families for whom once again the service was personalized. Recommended for...
Those who are looking for peace and quiet in an exclusive and refined environment.
