A large, lavish casino hotel based upon Venice and all other things Italian (Rennaissance period of course). Sounds tacky? Well, yes but this is Vegas, what do you expect?
When compared with the other hotels in Vegas (think erupting volcanoes and pirate ships) the theme of Italy isn't really that bad a choice. You have to admire the engineering feat that lets you wander the canals (with serenading gondoliers) and admire a fake Ponte Vecchio on the 4th Floor of a hotel. Michelangelo would roll in his grave to see an exact copy of the Sistine Chapel on the ceiling of a casino too. It's one concession to high art is a small branch of the Guggenheim museum with a travelling exhibit in the lobby.
The casino was like any other; big, buzzing and brash. The hotel itself is a maze but these are the things you expect. Where it scores highly is in the rooms. The Venetian is an all suite hotel. Each standard suite comes with a large lounge, with a mezzanine level bedroom and a bathroom big enough to house a gondola and extra large pizza.
Location is great - on the strip next to Wynn's and opposite the Mirage and Caesar's Palace.
Service is actually pretty unobtrusive, which is how we like it but still ever present.
The hotel has about 20 restaurants, too many for this reviewer, and it's resident spectacle is the Blue Man Group.
Definitely worth a stay even with a young family as the suites are very roomy. Give yourself over to the tackiness and you may grow to like it....
ProsSize of the rooms
ConsTakes you 15 mins to get to your room - it's that big!
