We, as a family of four, stayed at the Merville Hotel in Mauritius for one week during June 2005. We had one large bedroom off the main building of the Hotel with our own bathroom & shower/toilet. Even though we were not in the main building of the Hotel we nevertheless had easy access to the beachfront which was approximately 50m away from our patio on the ground floor. Our daughters were then 6 and 8 years old and it was an enjoyable, relaxing holiday for us all. Most enjoyable for us were the watersports offered by the Hotel, all of which were free of charge. The waterskiing, glass bottom boat and snorkeling trips were the highlight for my husband and I. For our daughters though, their highlight was definitely the delicious syrup pancakes for breakfast in the mornings (and the lovely warm beaches of course).
As our children were generally exhausted by around 9pm in the evenings, we didn’t take full advantage of the Hotel entertainment for the evenings, which we found a pity, as each night there was a new item/entertainer scheduled. Needless to say, we sacrificed for our children (and mind you, we weren’t far behind the children either and welcomed the early nights!) The Hotel staff were very friendly and efficient, and our room was kept very clean everyday. The Merville Hotel is situated close to Grand Baai (walking distance) although we did notice a bus stop in front of the Hotel.
The weather was lovely (not too hot and not too many mosquitos), the scenery was great (well kept gardens), our holiday was a memorable and most enjoyable one. We will definitely return to Hotel Merville…… soon hopefully!
