Shandrani

We went to Shandrani for our honeymoon in May 2004. I can sincerely say that the service and failities offered are indeed exceptional... I was impressed by the cleanliness and comfort of the spacious rooms. The staff is very courteous and we had a very warm welcome were offered 2 tshirts and fruits on our arrival. The entertainment and restaurent is also fantastic.
I really enjoyed the glass bottom boat trip - the marine fauna at Blue Bay is extraordinary. Please don't miss it...
The only negative point is that the hotel is a bit too close to the airport and the sound of planes was not very enjoyable. I admit that I do have a small preference for hotels along the north coast. We opted for Shandrani due to five star service. Otherwise,I will highly recommend this hotel to everyone.

Had a nice peaceful w-end there. Excellent meals. Very well-maintained rooms. Quite a number of interesting activities. Important for you to have a trip in the glass-bottom boat ... very beautiful underwater scenes.

Airplane noise as it is near the airport

Although the setting was nice, the attitude of the staff spoilt the experience. In general (there were exceptions) I found the staff to be unhelpful and disinterested. On arrival, check-in took longer than it should have and I was left to carry my own bags to my room. I was left with the feeling that there was a problem between staff and management which the staff were reacting to in this way.

I've stayed in the Shandrani before but the first feeling when you enter this hotel is always pleasant because of the atmosphere and the setting! From the moment you enter the premises, you hear birds everywhere and allthough this peaceful atmosphere is interrupted now and then by the sound of an airplane taking off, this only takes a minute or so, and therefore I don't find it irritating!
I was surprised when I realized that the room had been renovated. Apparently only one wing has been done and the other one is due to be done the coming months.
Negative was the experience and the food in the a la carte restaurant le boucanier. The staff was unpleasant and allthough all dishes are a treat for the eye... they forgot that they should have also tasted nice.
A real disappointment were the deserts and the prices were ridiculously high for what we got.
Breakfast on the other hand was really good. Very much improved since last time I was there.
Overall I can recommand this hotel. Especially if you don't want to have to drive long once you get to Mauritius... it is only 10 minutes from the airport.
