«Colonial elegance on the wild South coast»

The visit

Le Telfair Golf & Spa Resort in Bel Ombre, commenced operations in December 2004 on a former sugar estate. Built in the colonial style, with a 18 hole golf course and a Six Senses Spa, this resort offers everything one needs for a luxurious, relaxing holiday.

Location

LeTelfair is located in Bel Ombre on the wild South Coast of Mauritius. Development of this remote area began only recently. The coral reef forms a protective lagoon for swimmers and for those who want to try water sports but you can still see and hear the waves breaking on the reef. The transfer time from the airport is about one hour, as is the journey to the capital Port Louis.

Atmoshpere

Colonial elegance with a romantic touch. The hotel is not as big as the average resort in Mauritius which emphasizes the intimate atmosphere.

Rooms

The romantic touch continues in the beautiful 158 rooms and suites of Le Telfair. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable with beautiful furnishings and a big bathroom. Apart from the superior rooms, all rooms have a romantic four poster bed.

Beach

A large, extensive sandy beach stretches along the whole of Bel Ombre. There is no need to reserve your place under the sun as Le Telfair has lots of sun beds available for its guests with the beach towel already waiting for you to stretch out on.

Activities

As in most hotels in Mauritius water sports are free of charge at Le Telfair, these include water skiing, windsurfing, laser sailing, etc. There is also a diving center, three tennis courts and a fitness center. In the adjacent Domaine de Bel Ombre there is the par 72 championship golf course. Le Golf du Chateau offers a tricky but fair game and beautiful views. You can also discover the Mauritian flora and fauna in the 3500 acres Valriche Nature Park which belongs to the resort. The Six Senses Spa at Le Telfair is truly one of the most beautiful I've seen. With ponds and water features everywhere, this is the perfect place to relax and enjoy being pampered. The prices are consequently expensive but worth it.

Service

The Mauritian staff are genuinely friendly and helpful. Also very nice is the little attention which you'll find in your room every day when you get back from the beach late afternoon. A butler is available for all guests staying in one of the suites.

Food

There are five restaurants at Le Telfair:

  • Annabella's, the main restaurant boasting a show kitchen where you choose your dishes from the a la carte menu; a welcome change from the usual buffets. Serves breakfast and dinner.
  • Gin'ja, the Beach Restaurant, specialising in seafood.
  • A beautiful old colonial house has been converted into the fine dining restaurant Le Chteau de Bel Ombre, at the edge of the golf course where you can also have your afternoon tea.
  • Le Palmier between the pool and the beach for light lunches.

Cleanliness

Impeccable everywhere; the rooms, gardens, the beach and pool as well as all public areas.

Value for money

Obviously there is a price for this kind of product but it is worth it. Booking Le Telfair through a tour operator is often more cost effective.

    To point out...

  • The kids club starts from 2 years old (other hotels usually only start from 3 years).
  • The a la carte menu available in the main dining room.

For families

Children from the age of 2 to 11 are entertained at the kids-club at Le Telfair which is open until 10 pm every day. Point to note is that lunch and dinner are served at the kids-club. Baby sitters can be booked costing approx. 4 Euros/hour

Recommended for...

  • Honeymooners because of the intimate atmosphere
  • Anyone who wants to get away from it all and relax
