The Savoia & Jolanda is a 4 star hotel in the heart of Venice. It's location right on the Grand Canal overlooking St Marks basin makes it a fantastic base for seeing the city.
Your first expereince of luxury is as you step into reception: marble flooring, dark wooden panelling and huge mirrors, rich fabrics.... The rooms are beautifully decorated in Venetian style. The walls are covered with brocade not wallpaper, ornate mirrors, Murano glass, beautiful soft furnishings.
There are some suites which have a view of the Grand Canal at the front of the hotel (however, rooms with a view of the canal in Venice come at a premium), but even our small inside room was a pleasant space. The room was always clean, the bathroom was nice, the bed was comfy.
The staff have been most helpful on both my visits to this hotel. My friend and I attended a costume ball at Carnival time and when we came back to the hotel (embarrassingly a bit the worse for wear from too much good wine), the manager clapped his hands from behind the reception desk and a porter came hurrying out, picked up the train on my friends ball gown and carried it behind her as she went upstairs - now that's service for you :o)
All the main vaporetto/waterbus routes are right nearby, as are many of the most popular sights; the Bridge of Sighs, St Marks Basilica, the Campanile, St Marks Square and the Doge's Palace.
The hotel has it's own restaurant and although we never had lunch or dinner there, if the breakfast is anything to go by then the food is very good. Breakfast has everything you could wish for, and then some.
The hotel has an annexe to the rear, it's sister hotel the Villa Igea. You may be assigned a room here if the main hotel is full. You still check in at the Savoia & Jolanda reception and use the restaurant so it is, in effect, the same hotel.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Venice.
