The visit
Open since October 2004, the Taj Exotica is an hotel composed of exclusively by villas of at least 525 square feet (160 m²): each of the 65 villa has a private pool.
The amenities in the villas are attractive: espresso machine, hi-fi set, plasma screen, DVD player... The bathroom is worth the stay: apart from the bath tub there are two showers one with a glass partition wall with access to a private patio and the other one outside. A beautiful hotel in it's category... and one of the rare where you can have a swim at midnight in all intimacy with a view of the Indian Ocean.
Location
Flic en Flac, in the west of the island with a beautiful view of the mountain peak of The Morne Barbant.
Atmoshpere
A mix of modern and authentic. Luxurious and classy decoration, trade mark of Taj, the renowned Indian hotel group. The bar and restaurants mix the design of the coloured leather armchairs with traditional furniture.
Rooms
Large and functional in African style with exotic parquet floors. Elegant bath room half wood, half marble. Bath tub encircled by a line of pebble, showers open, luxurious in the details (well thought of lighting). The view, first of the pool and then of the ocean, is a treat from the morning on.
Beach
Trees provide you shade, the deck chairs and showers are the same standard of the other amenities. Special attention: open tents, fitted up for you to relax (see pictures). The beach is extensive and it is possible to stroll until the Flic en Flac public beach. The problem is that with a private pool you don't really feel the need to go to the beach. which is a pity: the lagoon is really large and the swimming attractive.
Activities
The Jiva Grande spa has to be experienced. They propose in a special atmosphere specific program with masseurs coming from India. The quality of the treatments is very good. All this in a well thought environment. Other activities (water sports.) are the standard of this hotel category [that is : in Mauritius, the majority of the watersports (waterski, catamaran sailing, windsurfing, pedal boat) are free of charge).
Service
Ideal: discrete, efficient, courteous and personalised.
Food
At the expected level for a hotel of that category. Sealovers will be delighted with the proposed variety of fishes on the menu. The wine list is compact and shall accomodate the different tastes you will experiment at the Taj. The gastronomic restaurant proposes an interesting food experience, mixing tastes and savours.
Value for money
The rates of the Taj correspond to other hotels this category. Because of the concept and the quality of the service the price can be considered fair.

About the villa concept
Although there are other hotels in Mauritius with private villas (Belle-Mare Plage The Villas, The Oberoi Mauritius, One & Only Le Touessrok). The Taj is the only hotel which is exclusively composed of villas with private pools. At the Taj, you have a view of the Indian Ocean, there where the villas of other establishments are often enclosed. Said that, it is a matter of taste: complete intimacy or ocean view.
For families...
In spite of the presence of a kids club, and if your kids know how to swim, it's quite likely that they will prefer to stay in the villa.
